You Don't have to be Psychic to Predict Your Future. Try this...
/This was last year’s Laminated Goal Sheet and it did keep me on track.
When we set off on the long path to becoming a successful and prolific published author, it can get a little heady sometimes. We question ourselves, we want guarantees, and wish we could predict the future.
The good news is, to a great degree, you can.
Paper nerd that I am, I've already started creating worksheets for my goals journal for 2021. This is a habit I got into after working with my mentor, Hilary Rushford, a few years ago. She does these incredibly inspiring vision casting exercises and has put out her 2021 goals journal this week.
Because I live in Colombia and have a papelaria (run by my paper-product bestie) right outside my house, I have been so bold as to invent my own similar exercises, and then get them spiral bound, and/or laminated.
If you want more clarity on your specific path, I recommend an exercise I call, “This is how it happened.” It involves seven prompts:
Before I started I was…
Then I really got the ball rolling by…
At first, I struggled with… but figured it out by…
The major steps I had to finish were…
During the messy middle, I learned…
By the time I mastered the process I knew how to…
Which lead to my vision of…
When you break down the process into these universal steps you can glean a lot of great advice from your future self. You can get insights on where you need to focus and the major obstacles you’ll have to figure out. Once you know those things, your future becomes a lot more predictable.
